Donahue Data Dash: Dashboard of Detailed Race and Ethnicity Groups at the State, County, and Place Level from the Census 2020 Detailed Demographic and Housing Characteristics File A (Detailed DHC-A)

On September 21st, 2023, The U.S. Census Bureau released its latest Census 2020 data product: the Detailed Demographic and Housing Characteristics File A (Detailed DHC-A). This product contains population counts by sex and age for approximately 1,500 detailed race and ethnicity groups at the National, State, County, Place, and Tract geographic level. The data are available for download at data.census.gov and more information on the Detailed DHC-A, including the full detailed race and ethnicity crosswalk can be found on the Census Bureau’s 2020 Census Data Products website here: https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/decennial-census/decade/2020/planning-management/release/about-2020-data-products.html#d-dhcfilea.
In the UMDI dashboard below, users can explore the detailed race and ethnicity groups for Massachusetts as well as its counties and cities. Users can filter the data visualizations by major race and ethnicity group in addition to regional groups within the major race and ethnicity groups. Each bubble in the charts below represents one detailed race and ethnicity group, with the size of the bubble corresponding to the size of the population. The table accompanying the bubble chart shows the most populous ten detailed race and ethnicity groups in the selected geography and by the filters applied. In addition, the county share visualization displays the most prominent detailed race and ethnic group’s share of the total county population.
