This study, initiated and funded by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management, analyzes the economic value of the coastal and marine economies in Massachusetts. The study discusses employment and production output resulting from economic activity in the coastal and marine economies. It provides specific sectoral detail for each of five major sub-sectors of the Massachusetts marine economy including: Commercial Seafood, Marine Transportation, Coastal Tourism and Recreation, Marine Science and Technology, and Marine-related Construction and Infrastructure. Employment, establishment and payroll summaries are provided for each sub-sector and major trends and issues are discussed. Extensive technical appendices detailing data sets and methodology are provided.
