Massachusetts economy grows 3.3%; labor shortage feared

From the article:

The Massachusetts economy closed 2017 strong, according to estimates released Friday by MassBenchmarks, a journal published by the UMass Donahue Institute in collaboration with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

The Bay State economy grew by 3.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017. That beats the national average of 2.6 percent during the same period, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

MassBenchmarks editors predict 2.8 percent growth in the first three months of 2018 and 3 percent growth in the second quarter of this year.

But the state's labor market is tightening and employers might have to constrain growth because they can't find workers to fill jobs, according to the report. It's a warning the economists who write MassBenchmarks have issued before.
