The National Academy of Engineering Recognizes “The WPI Plan” and Four WPI Faculty with the Prestigious 2016 Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education
Today, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) received the 2016 Bernard M. Gordon Prize for Innovation in Engineering and Technology Education. The award was specifically for "The WPI Plan," the university’s project-based approach to education. The core of the WPI Plan has been to use classroom knowledge to apply to projects that addressed real-world problems.
UMass Donahue Institute recently conducted a survey of WPI alumni regarding their thoughts about project-based education at WPI. Alumni shared that this approach "significantly enhanced their professional abilities and advancement, their interpersonal and communications skills, and their world views", according to a WPI news release.
