UMDI co-hosts Academy for New Legislators
Sixteen representatives-elect from throughout the state attended a three-day event at the University of Massachusetts Amherst to discuss issues and topics they’re likely to face when they take office. Hosted by the UMass Donahue Institute, the UMass President's Office, the Office of the State Senate President and the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Academy for New Leaders is held bi-annually to prepare these officials for their new responsibilities and ensure a smooth transition into the Legislature.
House Speaker Robert DeLeo and many members of his leadership team participated in a simulated legislative session. The agenda also included speeches and presentations covering education, economic development and media training.
