U.S. Census Bureau releases new sub-county population estimates for July 1, 2016
Today the U.S. Census Bureau released July 1, 2016 population estimates at the sub-county (city and town) level. These new estimates are derived from the allocation of the Bureau’s 2016 county-level population estimates - released in March of this year – according to updated municipal housing unit estimates and group quarters populations. As in recent years, the estimates show that Boston and its suburbs are among the fastest growing places in the state, while places in Western Massachusetts and Cape Cod - including cities and towns in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, and Barnstable counties - show estimated population loss.
