The nation’s first college for young parents made possible in part by fund development team
With fund development assistance from the Institute’s Nonprofit Funding & Fiscal Solutions group, The Care Center of Holyoke, Mass. will partner with Bard College to launch BARD Holyoke, the nation's first college for young parents.
BARD Holyoke’s rigorous academic program will focus heavily on writing, close reading, and critical thinking through study in a variety of subject areas including history, literature, mathematics, anthropology, politics, philosophy, and science. Students will also have access to a full range of supports, including child care, transportation, tutoring, and housing and parenting resources. Students who complete the program will receive an Associate’s Degree from Bard College, a private liberal arts college in New York state.
“It has been incredibly gratifying to collaborate with The Care Center over the years, from writing their first major federal grant in 2003, which established their academic approach as a national model demonstration project, to most recently fundraising to make BARDHolyoke a reality,” said Sharon Vardatira, Nonprofit Funding & Fiscal Solutions Director. “Our team strives to help all our clients secure tangible resources, build on their strengths, and make positive change in the world.”
