John Murray named New Director of CareerWorks, workforce development agency in Brockton
The UMass Donahue Institute is pleased to announce that John Murray has been named as the new director of CareerWorks in Brockton. John brings over 24 years of experience in the workforce development field to his position, the majority spent providing outplacement services to employers and employees in southeastern Massachusetts.
Most notably, John co-developed the first Rapid Response team, which was adopted as the state and national model for helping growing companies access an available pool of trained and skilled workers, and also coordinating services and immediate aid for companies and workers affected by layoffs and plant closings. While coordinating the Rapid Response team, John also spent five years managing Brockton’s worker assistance center.
At the request of the U.S. Department of Labor, he provided technical assistance to Rhode Island officials in establishing that state’s Rapid Response program. His experience negotiating outplacement services includes work with companies such as Boston Whaler, Proctor and Gamble, Ocean Spray, and Balfour. He was recognized by the U.S. Navy for his assistance in transitioning employees at the Naval Air Base in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
Over the course of his career, John has routinely collaborated with state and local economic development agencies to assist employers with their workforce needs, and he has also served on several Workforce Investment Boards. Mr. Murray holds a master’s degree in Education with a specialization in Instructional Design from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He earned his B. A. in Psychology from Saint Anselm College.
