Iraqi students master the fundamentals of fundraising
Twenty-five students participating in the Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program through the UMass Donahue Institute’s Civic Initiative were able to raise approximately $1000 for the Amherst senior center at a fundraiser held at The Pub, a restaurant in downtown Amherst. Part of a project designed to give the students hands on experience in community organizing and fundraising, the event featured musical performances and gave students the opportunity to talk about their lives at home and their experience living in the U.S. this summer.
Fifty Iraqi students are currently enrolled in the Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program at UMASS. Funded by the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, the program brings highly motivated Iraqi students to the U.S. to study aspects of American public policy through the lens of historical and current political, social and economic issues.
