Fiscal Year 2015 was busy, sucessful for CareerWorks
The staff of CareerWorks recently reported their accomplishments for the previous fiscal year (July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015). The year’s highlights, listed below, are organized by employer services, jobseeker services and other program highlights:
Employer Services
Fulfilling its mission to continue to expand connections with local employers, the center served 558 employers over the fiscal year, well over the goal of 500. The top five industries assisted were: Health Care/Social Assistance; Retail-Trade; Admin/Support/Waste Management; Manufacturing-Metal/Electronics; and Retail-Sporting Goods, Hobbies.
Among the companies served, Amazon.com conducted 26 hiring events at CareerWorks to fill positions in their new Stoughton, MA distribution center. The hiring events resulted in 206 job offers.
Job Seeker Services
CareerWorks served nearly 5,500 job seekers during the fiscal year. This was a drop from nearly 6,800 served in the previous year, and reflects a continuing trend toward an improved economy and lower rate of unemployment. Of these job seekers, about 340 were veterans who are given priority of service at CareerWorks.
The highest placement occupations for job seekers were Office/Admin Support (310 placements), representing a four-fold increase in this category over the previous year. This occupation category is a mainstay of the economy in CareerWorks’ service delivery area.
Lastly, CareerWorks conducted 44 recruitment sessions over the year that were attended by over 540 job seekers. Mini job fairs were also hosted at the center including a November fair focused solely on veterans.
Highlights from other programs
- The English for Employment Program helped non-native English speakers develop practical language skills needed to search for employment.
- The Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) Pathways Initiative is a collaboration with the Brockton Public Schools, East Bridgewater Public Schools, Massasoit Community College, Stoughton Youth Commission and Brockton Area Workforce Investment Board which offers remediation services for students who have failed to satisfy their high school competency determination.
- The partnership with the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission offered assistance to job seekers with disabilities through services that maximize economic self-sufficiency in the community.
