Evaluation of ESE's TELL Mass Initiative: Use of TELL Mass Results to Improve Teaching and Learning
June 2015
Teaching, Empowering, Leading and Learning in Massachusetts (TELL Mass) is a statewide survey of teaching and learning conditions in K-12 districts across the Commonwealth. The Institute conducted a targeted, mixed-methods evaluation study of TELL Mass on behalf of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary Education. The study investigated whether and how districts and schools used results from the survey. Using data from interviews in concert with analysis of the TELL Mass results, the study found that many districts and schools did use their results, but that approaches to doing so varied. Overall, schools with greater educator awareness of TELL Mass use were more likely to see improvements in measured teaching and learning conditions.
