Mass Mentoring Counts 2006: The State of Youth Mentoring in Massachusetts

In 2006, Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP), the umbrella for youth mentoring in the state of Massachusetts, engaged the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute in launching Mass Mentoring Counts, an important initiative to assess the state of youth mentoring in Massachusetts.

Mass Mentoring Counts is a powerful tool to enable MMP to most effectively fulfill its strategic objectives. Armed with the results, it will strengthen MMP’s capacity to:

Raise public awareness by collecting and disseminating relevant and critical data
Depict the landscape of youth mentoring and make a case for strategic inputs from potential investors
Develop a body of knowledge to guide strategic decision-making for program development, new initiatives, and innovation
Create a more comprehensive statewide network of youth mentoring programs

Mass Mentoring Counts reports on and maps key findings on formal youth mentoring programs that match adult mentors (age 18 and older) with youth in a ratio no larger than 1:4. Ninety-eight organizations, representing a 73% response rate, completed the Mass Mentoring Counts Web survey. This report provides information on the 119 youth mentoring programs run by these 98 organizations.
