As I See It: State of the UMass system

In a July 20 column, UMass President Marty Meehan discussed the impact of the UMass system on the Commonwealth. He cited a 2014 study by the Institute, "University of Massachusetts Economic Contribution Analysis FY 2013" to demonstrate not only the impact on the region served by UMass Lowell (where he previously served as chancellor) but also on the state as a whole.

From the article: "For example, the success we had at UMass Lowell -- which included doubling the research expenditures, expanding enrollment, opening 10 new buildings, developing strategic collaborations with local industry, and making striking gains in national academic rankings -- had a $813 million impact in the Lowell area, according to a 2014 UMass Donahue Institute study. Together, the five campuses of the UMass system generated $6.1 billion in economy activity."
