WBUR Radio Boston: What would defense cuts mean for Mass?
Marty Romitti, director of Economic and Public Policy Research at the UMass Donahue Institute participated in a conversation on WBUR’s Radio Boston program, discussing a recent study he authored on the impact that defense cuts would have on the Massachusetts economy. Romitti, along with Professor Robert Pollin, co-director of the Political Economy Research Institute at UMass Amherst, discussed the issue of job creation and loss in the context of defense budgets and the Budget Control Act of 2011. Pollin recently released a study on the how investments in education, clean energy and health would create many more jobs than defense.
Both reports offer valid arguments in the debate over job creation strategies and have caught the attention of Washington as election season approaches.
