Way Finders’ City of Homes initiative in Springfield gets $2M grant from MassMutual Foundation

The City of Homes pilot initiative, managed by Way Finders, seeks to test the efficacy of using receivership as a mechanism for increasing the inventory of affordable housing in Springfield. In addition, the initiative seeks to support economic mobility among low- and low/moderate-income communities of color by building wealth through home ownership.

Two institute business groups, Applied Research & Program Evaluation and Economic & Public Policy Research, will collaborate with Way Finders and the City of Springfield’s Office of Housing to develop and implement a two-year evaluation of the pilot initiative. In addition to the review and analysis of administrative records maintained by Way Finders and the City of Springfield, the evaluation team will engage in primary data collection with new homeowners as well as those entering the lottery who are not selected to purchase a property.
