United States Scholarship Program highlights from Abdur Rehman Afridi and Hilal Ahmad
The Study of the U.S. Institutes program is funded by the U.S. Department of State
Pakistani college students Abdur Rehman Afridi and Hilal Ahmad spoke to Voice of America journalist Wakil Khan about their experiences with the Study of the US Institutes Comparative Public Policy program at UMass Amherst this year.
They joined 18 other Pakistani college students who spent five weeks in the U.S. attending academic sessions on local, state and federal public policymaking. The group had a particular focus on food insecurity that included a session by the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, a volunteer session at food bank's farm in Hadley, Massachusetts and volunteer shift at Not Bread Alone food program in Amherst, Massachusetts.
The group also spent two weeks traveling around the east coast, including Boston, New York City, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Washington DC. The Civic Initiative has run this program since 2010.
