Exchange programs share their Civic Initiative summer experiences

On July 2, four participants from two separate US Department funded programs were interviewed by the Voice of America Deewa television program, "Bibi Shereena".

They discussed their selection to the programs and their experiences in the U.S. The Pakistan-based groups are called Study of the US Institute for Pakistani Student Leaders (SUSI) and "Strengthening Civil Society Organizations".

SUSI, funded by the US Department of State Education and Cultural Affairs Office, sends 30 Pakistani college students to UMass Amherst to learn about local, state, and federal public policymaking. The program consists of four weeks at UMass Amherst and two weeks traveling to around the east coast during the summer. The Civic Initiative has run this program since 2010.

Funded by the U.S. Embassy Pakistan (Islamabad), the goal of "Strengthening Civil Society Organizations" is to improve, in measurable and sustainable ways, the organizational capacity of Pakistani Civil Society Organizations ("nonprofits") while at the same time improving ties between Pakistan and the United States through programming that highlights shared values. We are partnered with the Islamabad-based Institute of Rural Management. This program started in 2018.
