Sentinel and Enterprise: Report: Devens a boon for business

A report by the UMass Donahue Institute on the economic impact of businesses at Devens was prominently featured in the Sentinel and Enterprise, the daily newspaper covering the Fitchburg/Leominster region. “Profile and Economic Contributions: Businesses and organizations located in Devens, Massachusetts” looks at the number and types of jobs within Devens’ corporations and organizations; the average wages for each business sector; and the impact that spending by Devens’ corporations, organizations and employees has on the state economy.

Looking at data from 2010, the report found that the 95 employers at Devens provided jobs for 3,208 people. In addition, economic activity generated at Devens supported another 2,618 jobs throughout the state through secondary spending effects.

Speaking about the statistics, Rebecca Loveland, senior research manager with UMDI’s Economic and Public Policy Group said, "It's a conservative look. It represents the efforts that MassDevelopment put in to develop this as an economic-development site."
