Hampshire Gazette: Rosenberg presidency would bring Senate power to Pioneer Valley
UMass Donahue Institute executive director Lynn Griesemer was quoted in article by the State House News Service examining the likely scenario that Senate Majority Leader Stanley Rosenberg (D-Amherst) will lead the Massachusetts state senate as its next president. When Rosenberg takes the helm, he will be the first representative from the western part of the state to hold the postion since Maurice Donahue, the namesake and co-founder of the UMass Donahue Institute who lead the senate over 40 years ago.
Like Donahue, Senator Rosenberg has been a supporter of UMass and the state’s higher education system, and though he’s been a longtime champion for western Massachusetts, Griesemer believes he can be an effective leader for the entire state. She said, "I also think like Maurice, Stan Rosenberg is a very thoughtful person, extra well versed in all kinds of policy. And I think again, he will function as a leader for the state."
"There's so many things that I've known Stan to have an interest in," said Griesemer, who said she was "excited" about his rise. She said, "He is very committed to good government. He's very committed to a collaborative relationship across state agencies that leads to good government."
