Recorder: Population study projects coming shifts in Franklin County
The Greenfield Recorder featured an article highlighting the findings of a recent population study released by the Institute's Population Estimates program. The study looked at population projections for every town and municipality in Massachusetts through 2030, finding that the state’s overall population will grow nominally, but several regions will experience decreased numbers.
Franklin County totals will remain essentially stable over the next 15 years, while the proportion of residents over 65 will double and the number of young adults will shrink. These projections could impact budgetary considerations, influence the types of businesses that locate into and out of the region, and forecast levels of community involvement and volunteerism from a growing number of retirees.
