Massachusetts economy grows by 5.9 percent, outpaces nation

Massachusetts grew its economy by 5.9 percent in the third quarter of 2017 on the strength of a strong labor market in the eastern part of the state.
This is according to the MassBenchmarks Current Economic Index, released Friday by the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute and Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.
The state's economy is expected to grow at a moderately robust pace during the next six months or so with a rate of growth of 3.3 percent expected in the fourth quarter of 2017 and 3 percent in expected the first quarter of 2018, according to predictions also included in the quarterly report.
