Springfield shows small population growth in new census estimates
From the article:
Western Massachusetts cities maintained small growths last year, by as little as a few dozen, according to new census estimates released today.
In Springfield, a July 1, 2009 estimate of 155,575 residents was up from 155,521 the year before. The city reached its highest census estimate after several years showing stalled – and later deemed inaccurate – population figures.
Last year Springfield successfully challenged 2008 estimates, resulting in a 4,881 jump from the previous year’s estimates.
Molly J. Goren-Watts, manager of the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission’s Regional Information and Policy Center, works closely with the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute and state data center to ensure estimates are accurate.
