In duel of St. Patrick's parades with Boston, Holyoke's always draws crowds bigger than itself: organizers
From the article:
People have kept returning for generations because the Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade is unique, whatever Boston provides, Mayor Alex B. Morse said.
"As always, the parade in Holyoke offers a unique St. Patrick's Day experience that is safe, fun and a true homecoming for Holyokers all across the country. We are proud that a city of our size attracts nearly 500,000 people on parade day and tens of thousands of people on road race day," Morse said.
"The Donahue Institute at UMass (the University of Massachusetts) also published a report a few years back quantifying the positive economic impact to the regional economy in the amount of $20 million dollars. There is something special about the Holyoke experience on St. Patrick's Day, and no other city in the United States can compete with us on that," he said.
