Lawmakers send Healey $63.4 billion annual budget bill
MassBenchmarks latest state outlook noted
Massachusetts lawmakers have sent a $63.4 billion state budget to Gov. Maura Healey, outlining funding priorities for education, transportation, and other essential services for fiscal year 2027. The proposal includes $2.7 billion in revenue from the state’s surtax on high-income earners, with no new taxes or fees planned. Healey now has 10 days to review the spending plan before deciding on any vetoes or amendments.
Also Wednesday, the economists at MassBenchmarks issued their latest outlook. They said state GDP growth registered at 2.4% in the first quarter of the year, slightly ahead of the 2.1% national average. The economic journal published by the University of Massachusetts Amherst Donahue Institute said Massachusetts “is seeing significant activity in the development and application of AI in areas ranging from air traffic control and robotics to life sciences and machine intelligence.”
