Boston Globe: Mass. jobless rate rises slightly to 5.6% in July

Daniel Hodge, director of Economic and Public Policy Research at the UMass Donahue Institute, was quoted in a Boston Globe article outlining the state’s current employment levels.

While the jobless rate slightly rose from 5.5 to 5.6 percent in July, Massachusetts employers have added near 14,000, the most since July 2011, when the state added nearly 24,000 jobs.

“It’s a strong monthly job growth rate, for sure,” said Hodge. “That’s the classic broad-based growth you’d be looking for in a recovery.”
