Citing an undercount of college students and immigrants, Wu challenges 2020 Census tally
Boston mayor Michelle Wu he's going to challenge the counts from the 2020 census, specifically for students foreign-born persons and people who were incarcerated during the count. Mayor Wu believes the numbers were underestimated during the census count. Because the senses counts are so important for the allocation of government resources they want the Census Bureau to take a second look.
“This is the right time, and there is an opportunity right now to correct some of the count issues the city experienced during the 2020 count,” said Susan Strate, the senior program manager of the population estimates program at the UMass Donahue Institute. “I think it’s a great thing.”
