Missed counts, lost power: Why the 2030 census matters for the Berkshires
Meghan Flanagan, a research manager at the UMass Donahue Institute, told officials in the meeting at the Berkshire Innovation Center that the census has far-reaching effects beyond political representation.
“Accurate census data is used for planning, public health, transportation and other public concerns, and the 2030 count sets the base estimates, forecasts and the American Community Survey,” Flanagan said. “Many people use these data … it's the most accurate baseline that we have for the next 10 years … so it's imperative that we get this correct.”
